The Adler Planetarium opened in 1930 as America's first Planetarium. Its mission is to encourage future exploration and understanding of our complex universe, and fosters this mission through its own intriguing exhibits. Along with its unparalleled collection of antique astronomical instruments, the Planetarium introduces numerous exhibits to the public that inspire space and science research in an exhilarating and enjoyable way. The Shoot for the Moon exhibition allows you to experience lunar exploration with former NASA astronaut, Jim Lovell. Astronomy and Culture takes us back to ancient civilizations such as Egypt and Medieval Europe to learn about their interpretations of our universe. Hidden Wonders, one of the most popular exhibitions, explores the past, present and future of the night sky that us city-dwellers may sometimes take for granted. The Adler Planetarium is fun and interesting for both children and adults, and its multifaceted exhibits will leave you with a new understanding of how the universe works.
