Pioneer Day, or, Days of '47, commemorates the date in 1847 that Brigham Young and his fellow Mormon pioneers entered the haven of Salt Lake Valley, and is celebrated on July 24th. Though the celebration is chiefly treasured by the Mormon faith, Pioneer Day signifies a state holiday for all of Utah, as it takes on a similar significance as July 4th for this region. The pilgrimage of the pioneers is celebrated with parades, rodeos, concerts, fireworks and even a hike on the trail that the nineteenth century pioneers took to Salt Lake Valley.
