Among the most revered landmarks in Indianapolis is Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the oldest Catholic parish in Indianapolis and its former pro-cathedral. The current church has stood in the heart of the downtown business district since its completion in 1871. Founded in 1837 largely by immigrants from Ireland, St. John still serves old and young, those from office and home, visitors and residents—all worshipping in an atmosphere of beauty, peace and security.
