Founded in 1893, the Denver Art Museum prides itself on a unique permanent collection and captivating traveling exhibitions. As opposed to dedicating its space to the big, internationally acclaimed names in art, the Denver Art Museum pays homage to a smaller scope of artists from around the world who are just as talented as the greats. The permanent collection is home to exhibits such as American Indian, Pre-Colombian, Asian, photography, Spanish Colonial and African American art. The pieces are beautiful and strikingly representative of their period and place of origin. The traveling exhibitions focus on individual artists, mediums and time periods, so as to offer a more microscopic view of some of art's most interesting aspects.
